I loved how much independence I had in this role and how I was able to truly make this experience what I wanted. I had the opportunity to work alongside the corporate social responsibility team at First Merchants and I even had the opportunity to help launch an employee resource group for people of color in the workplace.
What I wish was different
I think potentially more interaction amongst interns to make it feel more like a cohort.
Advice
The biggest piece of advice I can give is to not be afraid to really put yourself out there and get as involved as you can in the short time you may have there. Value and build true connections and remember that people will be willing to support your growth.

Commercial Loans Intern
May - August 2019 • Fort Wayne, IN
What I liked
My favorite thing about my internship was the way I was managed and how the program at FMB was. My favorite experiences were sitting in meetings so I could learn and absorb information about how credit is analyzed in a commercial banking setting.
What I wish was different
One thing that I wished had been different about my internship is I would have liked to go on some calls or closing that the commercial bankers had. Some of this had to deal with scheduling, but that was the one thing I wish would have been different.
Advice
One piece of advice that I would share about this experience is never take an opportunity for granted. They are all around you and it is your job to be able to recognize those and take advantage of them. Being a young professional you have so much support from others as you enter your field of study.
