Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)

Social Media Manager

February 2021 • Madison, GA

What I liked

I love the community and people I got to meet and create lasting relationships with. I also learned valuable skills about working on a deadline, managing multiple social media accounts, content creation, and how a non profit works.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to devote more time to this experience. I often had conflicts and couldn't show up to in-person meetings/events.

Advice

I would advise everyone to accept internships (paid and unpaid). I was an unpaid intern for this organization for over a year before I was asked to come on staff and it taught me a lot about work ethic and learning to do what I love which lead to a paying job.

Intern

May 2019 • Lynchburg, VA

What I liked

I LOVE interning with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes because I have opportunities to serve coaches and athletes. I served at FCA camps in the summer and helped support the ministry in various events throughout the school year. The hours are flexible and you get to meet and build relationships with so many coaches and athletes.

What I wish was different

As much as I enjoyed learning more about a non-profit ministry, I wish support raising would have been easier.

Advice

I would highly recommend an internship with FCA for anyone who has a sports background, loves the Lord, and wants to serve people! This internship stretched me to grow professionally, relationally, personally, and spiritually.

Intern

May - July 2019 • Denver, CO

What I liked

I was able to do something that was outside my major and still have a productable summer. It is my goal to work in ministry one day and FCA has been my ministry to be a apart of since high school. I got the chance to work with high school coaches, high school athletes, and other college interns to help spread the Gospel in the Greater Denver region. Oh yea, you can't forget about the FCA Colorado Sports Camp! Best part of the tummer.

What I wish was different

I wish it was longer! Sadly, it was only a nine-week internship that was over too quickly. All of the interns bonded so well with each other and still keep in touch on a regular basis. The relationships you make while working in this position last a lifetime.

Advice

Don't be afraid to do something that may be different than what your career may be. It is so beneficial to have those side hobbies/activities that you like to do. For me, ministry is an every day thing but to be able to have it as a job for a whole summer was such a beneficial experience that helped me grow as a leader and a person in which carries into all over aspects of life.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes Intern

May - August 2019 • Leesburg, VA

What I liked

The experience and the mission of the position. The team that I was able to learn from and work with. The various responsibilities I was asked to take ownership of. The openness of my superiors to listen to ideas and feedback. Working to advance the kingdom of God.

What I wish was different

It is a lot of work for not a lot of money, but the payment is far more than monetary and it is worth all the effort anyone can give.

Advice

Maximize every relationship you can, pay attention to the small details that do not appear to be the mountain movers, you will learn the most from seeing those.

Hanging our with kids and teaching them about Jesus.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes Summer Athlete Leadership Training Intern

May - July 2018 • Denver, CO

What I liked

I enjoyed learning all about what it looks like to be on staff with Fellowship of Christian Athletes. I met so many people and got really good connections for moving forward in a possible job offer for joining staff. I also got to spend the summer in a place I never would have lived in otherwise.

What I wish was different

One thing that I wish had been different was the lack of structure for the internship. I was apart of the first group that did the internship so this was the first time our directors had done something like this.

Advice

I would say to be open to the experience of going somewhere new and spend time learning about different avenues for a career. By the end of the internship I discovered that I was not called to being on staff for FCA but got so much clarity for my direction in becoming a teacher.
