Family Research Council

Development Intern

May - August 2018 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I have always had a huge passion for public policy and I believe the Family Research Council embodies the same values I do. I was blessed to learn about politics firsthand by interacting with people who are promoting conservative values. I had the opportunity to explore a new city while pursuing my dream of working in politics.

Devolopment intern

May - August 2019 • Washington, DC

What I liked

The environment at FRC is amazing, the people there really love the Lord, and the internship itself is really designed to give you great experience overall.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have had a little bit more to do, but that was more so because I finished projects before my supervisors had expected me to, so they did not have a new one prepared yet.

Advice

Learn everything you possibly can from the employees! They are all super knowledgeable about their field of work, and really helped me grow spiritually and professionally.

Brand Advancement Intern

May 2019 • Washington, DC

What I liked

FRC's team does a great job of integrating interns into the workplace. Interns are placed into different departments and we work closely with those departments. Interns were all treated as an equal member of the FRC team. We worked on projects and publications, helped start a podcast, attended hearing, etc. The people at FRC took a mentor role in our lives and invested so much in the interns. The internship was also paid and offers free housing in DC!

What I wish was different

I really loved this internship. I wish I had attended more events for the interns. I commuted from home rather than living with the other interns in DC, so it was challenging to stay after work to spend time with the interns and in DC because of commitments at night back home. There are so many opportunities the internship offers besides the day-to-day work that I wish I had taken advantage of!

Advice

Apply early because they have a rolling application. Also, take advantage of the different opportunities presented. The intern director will email opportunities/events going on at FRC or in the DC for the interns to attend if they are interested.

Intern for Development

May - August 2017 • Washington, DC

What I liked

Every employee was interested in helping the interns be part of the team and get the most out of the internship. There were many learning opportunities inside and outside of the organization. The people I worked with had a positive impact on my life.

What I wish was different

I would have liked to see the work of different departments within the organization.

Advice

Soak up every piece of wisdom you can gain from the people you work with and the opportunities you are given. Ask to do more things than what you are offered because you have a rare place to try things without incurring damage or frustration.
