I liked my schedule. Each day I worked 7-9 continuous hours. I was able to get many hours while having evenings and weekends off.

I wish I asked for a high hourly wage.

Advice

Being a nanny is very different than babysitting. You become very involved in the families life and in a sense become a part of that family. Always be yourself, be punctual, and be respectful, these things will build your trust with the family.

My host family helped me work on my Spanish and I got to meet so many other au pairs from all over Europe! I loved talking to people from the area and learning about Catalan culture.

I missed my family a little but that was to be expected!

Advice

Travel on your own before and during your stay in the country. Solo travel helps you become more aware of how the world works and more empowered to do awesome things because it’s HARD! But so worth it.

The hours were a bit inconsistent, but that's a small price to pay for a great job.

Never take your family for granted. You never know how much time you have left with them and every second is one more then you had before. Appreciate the moments you have, because eventually there won't be any more. It's a hard reality but a true reality.
