Human Resources Intern
May 2019 • Berkeley, CA
What I liked
This a position where you learn how to be well rounded in various avenues. You learn how to effectively communicate with coworkers, directors, in committees, meetings, etc. You learn how to do basic tasks and will acquire more work as you prove you can handle basic functions. The Director and Assistant Director of HR allows you to work in all areas of human resources (recruiting, committees, benefits, payroll) and actively let you know they want you to succeed in this role and let you work at your own pace to do so. This is a perfect role if you are interested in human resources and would like to progress in that area.
What I wish was different
The only thing I wish that was different was if the Claremont was located in San Francisco. The commute is not that great (about an hour coming home), but other than that it is literally the perfect internship.
Advice
Communicate what you would like to be learning and allow yourself to work in the areas that you want to work in. Be flexible with yourself and your coworkers and be transparent in what you can handle and what you are struggling with. The Director and Assistant Director want you to be satisfied with your work and being there, so be transparent if you want to work in a different area in the office.

Restaurant Server
November 2017 - September 2019 • Scottsdale, AZ
What I liked
My colleagues were young and friendly in and outside of work. I met guests with all different careers from all over the world each day.
What I wish was different
The management went through several transitions and was overall very unprofessional and unorganized.
Advice
I think that everyone needs to hold at least one serving job in their life to gain an understanding of how to treat staff when eating out.
