Construction Inter

May - August 2018 • Ilford, England

What I liked

Serious responsibility. Had to perform on deadlines every week. Had to work with a lot of different subcontractors, which made it both stressful and interesting at the same time. I was exposed to many different construction projects and multiple trades within each of those jobs in particular.

What I wish was different

I wish I would not have had to cold call so much at the beginning. I know that it is important, and there's almost no way around it, but it just stinks. I definitely enjoyed the conversations with subcontractors closer to bid day when I really had to think analytically on my feet.

Advice

Go after it. Don't wait for your manager to tell you to do something. Make a clear list of priorities then find a way to complete them in a timely manner.

Construction Intern

May - August 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

The company I interned for, F.H. Paschen, had confidence in their interns and provided me with challenging work which required problem solving and people skills. I was able to jump right into the construction process and got hands on experience in the field at two different job sites. The first being the construction of a pedestrain bridge and the second was a highway patching job.
