In exchange for flexibility and hard work, I was able to meet notable politicians such as the mayor, county executive, and governor. More importantly, I networked with local staffers and politicians and got to work with an awesome team at ECDC. The amount of time that I put in was remembered and rewarded often -- the staff makes a real effort to introduce you to everyone they can.
What I wish was different
Maybe a more formal explanation of potential responsibilities when I applied. I totally understand that these change constantly, but maybe a list of possible tasks (calling voters and volunteers, cutting mail, helping at fundraisers, driving voters on election day) could have been made clearer at the beginning, just so I would know what to expect.
Advice
It's stressful (aka realistic). There will be times you feel out of your league or like you don't belong. That's what makes it great: it's kind of a crash course in campaigning and politics. If I go into politics, my two months at ECDC will be much more helpful than my two years of political science classes.

What I liked
Working on campaigns and with candidates running for different offices. Very interesting learning about the local political process.
What I wish was different
More diverse workplace.
Advice
Create healthy relationships with the other interns you are working with, as well as the other people working at the office.
