Software Engineering Intern

May - August 2020 • Holland, MI

What I liked

I loved the work that I did, and I appreciated the ability to work from home. I've worked there before COVID-19, and the work environment is great. My coworkers were willing to answer any sort of questions and collaborate on or give advice for problems. I was able to work with lots of interesting people, including fellow developers, the Q/A team, and the design team.

What I wish was different

Ideally, COVID-19 wouldn't be a thing so that I'd have been able to work on-site more than I did. As for things that were more controllable, I would have spent more time making phone calls to ask questions instead of just messaging. When I did have phone calls with my coworkers, the socialization really made me feel quite a bit happier. Socialization is, in my opinion, one of the main factors of a happy job.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. If you are an intern, your coworkers understand that you don't know everything. If you ask lots of questions, they'll see that you're willing to learn, and that can gain you respect.
