Envision

Education Lead

June 2018 • Vienna, VA

What I liked

My first year I taught the curriculum and my second year I became an on-site manager for the academic experience and the program as a whole.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have relocated to work in the corporate office which plans and prepares for the yearly program but the summer experiences are just as rewarding.

Advice

It’s not easy but it is an experience that will change your life and your motivation to make a difference in education.

Envision Experience

June - August 2019 • Leesburg, VA

What I liked

I got to work with little kids in elementary, who were interested in the STEM program. I also made a lot of friends, who I still keep in contact with.

What I wish was different

I wish the lead teams were a little more organized, and that the supplies for each site were always shipped on time for the program start dates.

Advice

This job is definitely worth it, especially if you like working with children and travelling. This experience definitely helps to gain some great life experience.

What I liked

I loved the location, it was awesome working on Stanford's campus with Stanford Law professors. The scholars were also amazing. Working with them is always a rewarding experience.

What I wish was different

Sometimes the program can feel disorganized... there are a lot of moving parts at once so things can fall through the cracks sometimes. Quality communication with leadership is imperative.

Advice

Be very open about your opinions and suggestions, if something isn't working.. say so!! The best working environment can be created when everyone is honest and on the same page. Also make sure to get some sleep when you can! Working with kids all day can be just as exhausting as it sounds.

What I liked

Amazing staff, great support

What I wish was different

Really long hours meaning it was very exhausting. Also, pay could be better relative to the long hours.

Program Support

June - July 2019 • Lakeland, FL

What I liked

I got to travel a lot for this job which was exciting since I haven't gotten to do that a lot in my life yet. I also really liked working with the kids and seeing them get excited about the stuff they were doing in their lessons everyday.

What I wish was different

There were a lot of long hours that made it rough when doing it several weeks in a row. I do wish I had more time off in the locations I worked to be able to see the cities I was in.

Advice

It's a lot of work but it can also be a lot of fun. Take setbacks in stride and work with what the leads tell you. Also, if they offer you a fifth week, don't. By the end of week four you are just going to want to go home.

Envision Experiance Team

July - August 2019 • Fairfax, VA

What I liked

The opportunity to work in a team.

What I wish was different

At the time we were heavily understaffed and that got worse as it went on. The meals provided by George mason were great but incredibly unvaried.

Advice

Be prepared to walk a lot and to work the hours that are required. Finding a great team can make all the difference!
