What I liked

I learned a lot of hard skills that added to the writing and editorial skills that I started the internship with. Learning how to utilize search engine optimization, marketing strategies, design software and more pushed me to think about writing as more than just writing, but as a collaborative experience involving multiple parties past just the writer and their editor. Overall, would recommend to anyone looking to become a more competitive candidate in today's ever-growing digital media job market.

What I liked

I loved the close-knit work environment ENTITY Mag has! ENTITY really cares about its interns on every level. Furthermore, the mentors really took the time to sit down and develop each mentee (like older sister, of sorts!), which is something I'd never had when working with non-profits or studying in class.

What I wish was different

Although I really loved my time at ENTITY, I wish I had known I wasn't going to be a good fit for the job. I had hoped to engage in more political and business writing (which is partially my fault, I might have misinterpreted the term "women's empowerment" in this respect). I wasn't very good at social-media oriented writing at first, especially writing in bulk at breakneck paces, so I struggled and fell behind the other interns very quickly.

Advice

This internship is most valuable to individuals looking for experience in content marketing, business, social media, graphic design and publishing! ENTITY's startup environment ensures that you'll directly see results for all of your work , so it's amazing place for experiential learners.

SEO Writing Intern

May - July 2018 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

The work environment was open and there were a lot of opportunities to interact with the employees and CEO there. The writing was generally fun and I learned a lot about digital media, as well as about how to pursue my own career path due to the mentorship aspect.

What I wish was different

There was some negativity because the program was new and a bit disorganized. I was fine with things changing daily but the communication was very hit or miss, which caused a lot of people to feel like they were wasting their time at points. I wish the communication had been improved and that other interns weren't so negative all the time.

Advice

This experience is definitely one that you have to make yourself. Going through the motions of writing and doing what they ask you isn't enough. The moments where I felt like the internship was most valuable was when I was talking to the intern coordinator and my assigned mentor there about my aspirations and listening to their experiences and advice. You have to push yourself - it's a short program so really ask questions beforehand and set goals for yourself that you work through. I wish I would have done more as far as that goes.

What I liked

I loved being in a creative environment with other like minded people, getting to write everyday, and participating in lessons such as learning to use Adobe.

What I wish was different

I wish that we were given more time to write certain pieces.

Advice

Always take the risk of doing something that makes you feel uncomfortable. I loved this past summer and will always look back on it.
