Systems & Components Engineering Intern

May 2022 • Russellville, AR

What I liked

The projects I was given, lack of micromanagement

What I wish was different

Nothing

Advice

Sell yourself & ask as many questions as possible. The people around you want to share everything they know, and your experience will be useless if you don’t learn anything.

Electrical Engineering Intern

June - August 2019 • Buchanan, NY

What I liked

I liked how I was treated as a full employee as opposed to an intern. My project had meaning and would be continued after my internship session ended. I was able to attend important meetings and those in charge never saw me as less of a member of the team presenting or discussing problems. The other employees were all also very friendly and allowed me to come on walk-downs to the nuclear plant even if it had no regards to my project but was interesting to learn about

What I wish was different

My commute had an average time of 1 hour each way, which meant that i lost 2 hours each day to just driving, limited interaction time with my family and friends during the weekday. Additionally my desk space was very away from most people so a good portion of my session was spent by myself.

Advice

Do your best but don't be afraid to fail, don't be afraid to ask questions, but also have confidence in what you do. There is a happy medium in between needing your hand held and struggling for a very long time, which is hard to find during the first few weeks but once you catch up its worthwhile to learn and struggle and ask for help.
