I liked the structure and Christian community provided to us. I enjoyed the leadership and the experience I gained from teaching overseas. I was able to use my experience and apply it to my teaching classes this semester. I valued the diversity in age and was able to gain so much wisdom!
What I wish was different
I would have preferred if the team time we had could have been every other day instead of every day directly after 8 hours of teaching, then followed by team dinner. I would only have about 3 hours left to myself before bed, two of which were taken up by lesson planning for the next day. I just would have preferred more alone time to be available to be able to recharge!
Advice
To go into it with an open mind and heart. I was surrounded by many people who were 40+ and I would be the only 20-year- old around. Yet, I found their company amazing and they were full of stories and life advice which I couldn't have gotten from young people my age. I would also say cherish the stories and the time spent with the people you are teaching because being there is a life-changing opportunity.

High School English Teacher
July 2018 • Bắc Giang, Bắc Giang
What I liked
Teaching conversational English to kids.
What I wish was different
I wish that my class had actually been high schoolers. I had kids ages 9-12 and that was difficult never having had prior teaching experience.
Advice
ELIC loves their teachers and takes good care of them, especially for such a short period of time over a summer program. I would encourage others to do this program, but be sure to finish support raising before you go abroad.

I love getting to work cross culturally with students who did not speak conversational English. It was fun to try to learn about their culture even with a language barrier.
What I wish was different

Advice
Go in with confidence that the Lord will do something whether you know about it or not.
