What I liked

I like the mindset of the company. They use very innovative ways to attain sales and offer energy-saving / disinfecting technology which are essentials, especially during the pandemic. I am a really big fan of green technology which is why I agreed to their terms of a 2-week unpaid test trial.

What I wish was different

I wish they would have been straightforward in the sense that they expected interns/research analysts to bring in business if they want compensation. They blatantly stated in a meeting today that I don't have the skillsets of a sales professional and so I have to prove that I have some value in order to get compensated. How can they compare me to a sales professional? There is a reason why you "hire" college students. You can compensate them less in return for college-level work. If I didn't have the skillsets you were looking for, then don't hire me. I think that it is despicable to mislead college students into doing free work under the guise of eventually getting paid. I have bills to pay. When they informed me that the initial 2 weeks of their "test trial" will be extended until I have proven that I can "bring value to the company," I no longer wanted to work for this company. If they don't want to pay their interns then they should list this position as unpaid to set realistic expectations.
