Public Relations Intern Description

Qualified candidates should be ready to learn fast pace business etiquette, as well as industry savvy protocol.

An ideal candidate is someone who is full of creative ideas and is eager to contribute in a team environment. The intern will grow in communication and writing skills, as well as receive hands on experience with celebrities, red carpet events, and mainstream media outlets. Social Media Internship Description

Required Hours: 15-20 hours weekly


- Collaborate on strategic social media marketing campaigns that drive premium traffic to external web sources; increase social media followings; increase engagement with social media audiences; establish business partnerships; drive word of mouth buzz; and bottom- line sales opportunities
- Identify and engage target media contacts, influencers, campaign partners and brand ambassadors
- Produce social media content
- Prepare social media reports to track the success

Magazine Journalist & Content Editor Internship Description


Our magazine publications offer a comprehensive internship program for college and graduate students. (We are unable to accept interns who have already completed undergrad unless they are currently enrolled in graduate school.) Internships require approximately ten to fifteen hours of work per week; these hours may be distributed across days of the intern’s choosing. Positions are unpaid but offer invaluable experience in all aspects of magazine journalism. A stipend of $30 a month is available to cover the costs of parking downtown or taking MARTA for local interns.

Applicants must select one of the following areas of focus, plus one optional backup:


Editorial internship: Interns are responsible for fact-checking, proofreading, research, and occasional writing for the print magazine and website. Candidates should exhibit strong grammar and writing skills and have previous professional experience (preferably at a newspaper/magazine). A major in journalism or English is preferred.

Current Events & News internship: News interns will get an up-close look at reporting on—and writing about—local and statewide issues including politics, social justice, and philanthropy for In addition to reporting and writing, interns will conduct research, generate ideas, and help produce longer stories. Experience reporting on government and government departments is a plus but not required.

Empower Magazine’s Fashion Internship:

Interns will work directly with the editor-in-chief of Empower Magazine. Responsibilities include reporting and writing about industry events for the magazine’s website, assisting on photoshoots, and trend and product research, as well as some organizational tasks. Ideal candidates will have some journalism experience (published clips or coursework) and an eye for fashion, art, style, and design.

The ideal candidate will have a background in journalism (or be a journalism major), experience writing for a website, magazine or blog and a passion for all things fashion and beauty. An eye for forecasting fashion and beauty trends, curating stories for a teen reader and a concise consumer of what’s hot, what’s not and what could definitely be the next cool thing. Responsibilities include: writing and editing copy, brainstorming features and coming up with creative pitches for fashion/beauty articles.

Dining internship: The dining internship is an exceptional opportunity to explore the city’s culinary roots and report on local restaurants, events, and chefs. The intern will write and report stories for dining section of the magazine’s website. The successful candidate will have prior publishing experience, strong writing and reporting skills, the ability to generate fresh story ideas, and of course, a passion for food!

Business & Technology

Startup/Tech Journalist (Internship) Description

Through well-researched exposition, connecting people to the creators, tastemakers and achievers across multiple arenas, as well as sparking conversation around the cultural themes that impact the world around you.

Intern will cover all business and market oriented content that identifies with Empower Magazine.


Write a weekly commentary on all things related to tech and the startup world.
Write a bi-weekly profile on entrepreneurs in the startup community across various sectors.
Write regular content related to starting your own business.
Write regular content focused on professional development.

Note: Metro San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago and New York residents strongly encouraged to apply. However any location is acceptable as we have remote opportunities.


Photography internship: We are looking for a student who is comfortable handling photography equipment and lighting, well-versed in Adobe Photoshop, and familiar with stock photo agencies. Responsibilities include organizing issue artwork, scouting and researching, and assisting on photo shoots. Interns will also undertake photography assignments, skills permitting. Candidates should be organized, deadline-driven, and effective in communicating over the phone, in person, or via email.

Design internship: We’re looking for a design intern to work in the art department of Empower Magazine. Responsibilities include: participating in the planning of the art that goes in the magazine; helping on photo shoots; assisting in the design and production of editorial pages; and designing sales and marketing materials. We are looking for students with solid understanding of graphic design principles, interest in editorial design and experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and Photoshop. Candidates should be organized, deadline-driven, and effective communicators.


Marketing internship: Interns have the opportunity to learn the many different facets of magazine publishing, including production, sales, marketing, public relations, event and database development, accounting, and business planning. They assist in creating and executing communications and marketing strategies, researching and coordinating mailings, updating website listings, and coordinating special events. Note: The marketing internship is only offered during the summer semester.
