Empassion Marketing

Marketing and Business Development Intern

May - August 2021 • Havertown, PA

What I liked

I enjoyed the format of the internship in that Sharon and I would meet a few times a week to discuss what I had worked on and to give me new projects. Sharon gave me the freedom to work on the projects in ways I saw fit and allowed me to work on my own time.

What I wish was different

Advice

Try your best to find an employer with similar values to yourself. Sharon and I shared similar outlooks and perspectives on life and I feel this allowed us to mesh very well and created an overall fun experience for me as an intern.

Marketing Communications Intern

September - December 2020 • Havertown, PA

What I liked

The position itself was made in a collaborative & improvisational manner, so the lack of formal structure was natural and it even constituted that everything that got done got done by virtue of personal motivation rather than of a rubric. If the work was determined by a rubric and strict expectations, pivots in direction would be a sign of failure, but for this experience, pivoting indicated value in our research because it meant we had a better idea for why we ought to look into other areas. If that all sounds too vague, then to put it simply, my experience with Empassion entailed a level of flexibility such that it was impossible to take my reasons for doing my job for granted. I always knew why I was working on the tasks that I was and why it would be beneficial to my ultimate purpose at the company.

What I wish was different

As enriching as the openness of the internship was, I could have done with some stricter deadlines for transitioning from one phase of research to the next.

Advice

At any point of uncertainty or confusion, talk to Sharon. Even though she, like the rest of us, doesn't necessarily have all the answers, her ability to listen and inquire the right way will help you out of that confusion even if it means a pivot.

Marketing Intern

May - July 2020 • Havertown, PA

What I liked

I loved that Sharon always encouraged creativity and gave her interns the freedom to do lots of research within certain topics. She was always available to give clear guidance and feedback, but gave enough work to allow independent progress on projects and allowed us to delve into her business mindset first. This internship definitely broadened my ability to see projects with a creative eye.

What I wish was different

I missed the in-person aspect of the internship, but I would still encourage working remotely for Empassion Marketing!

Advice

Understand how to manage your time on certain projects and keep notes of what tasks are on the horizon to help with organization. By the end of the internship, it also serves as an awesome reminder of all the work that was completed! Also, never be afraid to ask questions or challenge your own ideas.
