Content Marketing Intern

May 2019 • Reston, VA

What I liked

I LOVED the diverse people working there and the open office environment! Each person there was more than willing to help any interns, and they treated us as equals.

What I wish was different

There’s nothing I would change, because I loved my internship experience! However, I do wish I had a position focused on PR more so than marketing. Nonetheless, I learned a ton and it’s been a great experience!

Advice

Treat each day like a real job. It’s easy to get caught up in the fun of being and intern, which is totally ok. However, it’s important to remember that this is your impression into the real world and you’re career.

IT Technician

June 2017 • Purchase, NY

What I liked

Supervisors were always accommodating for personal affairs and treated all staff equally. Coworkers were always a pleasure to work with. I have always felt like a part of a team, always in communication with one another to achieve our goals. The more experienced staff always lent a hand and always taught more about the field when asked.

What I wish was different

I would not change anything about my experience.

Advice

Communication is key, the Help Desk is the place to start for those interested in a career in IT.

Partnerships Intern

May - August 2019 • Reston, VA

What I liked

Given real, meaningful projects to work on + a project fair at the end of the internship to present your summer's work. Lots of opportunities to network with executives and people from other teams. Weekly sessions for the interns geared towards personal and professional development, in addition to various social events (going to Nationals baseball game in DC, TopGolf in the last week of the internship, various happy hours, etc). Super flexible work/life balance, my manager even allowed me to work from home on Fridays. Lots of free food. The directors of the program really put in a lot of time and effort to make the internship program enjoyable and meaningful for all of the interns.

What I wish was different

More interaction/bonding with interns from other locations would have been cool, but overall I would not change much about the internship.

Advice

Be ready for a steep learning curve in the beginning of the internship, especially with regard to learning about the terminology and other facets of the tech industry (especially if you are coming from a non-technical background like me). However, your team wants to help you adjust so don't be afraid to ask questions.

Data Engineer Intern

May 2017 • Reston, VA

What I liked

It can vary depending on the roles but for technical jobs, you get to participate in real projects and learn cool technologies that company is using. In addition, everyone treats you as an employee. HR makes sure you get 'real' works instead of carrying coffees around the office. Lastly, there are many opportunities to meet other interns in different department.

What I wish was different

Nothing much.

Advice

Don't limit yourself to people just within your department and reach out to more people!
