El Pomar Foundation

Investment Intern

May - August 2021 • Colorado Springs, CO

What I liked

I loved El Pomar Foundation's commitment to investing in its employees. El Pomar prides itself on developing excellent leaders in Colorado, so you can expect to spend around 10% of your time working on all kinds of professional and personal development. In my summer role, I wrote and presented speeches each week as part of a public speaking seminar, learned feedback techniques, networked with current and past employees, and attended presentations from experts in mental health, emotional intelligence, and local business affairs.

What I wish was different

The investment intern is a bit more isolated from other young employees at El Pomar by the nature of the position. This came with the benefit of more exposure to senior staff at the foundation but meant I had less social time with my peers. If you are applying for any other position, this should be a non-issue.

Advice

Go out of your way to make connections with your coworkers. El Pomar Foundation attracts exceptional people, so almost everyone could be an amazing friend. Enjoy your time with them while you can during the Fellowship or Internship!
