EisnerAmper

Forensic, Litigation, and Valuation Services Intern

June 2024 • Baton Rouge, LA

What I liked

Culture: The culture at the firm is wonderful. People, regardless of rank, have been very supportive and generous with their help and time. There's been an abundance of resources available to me for learning and support. If you're looking to intern during a semester, management is incredibly understanding about your status as a student and respectful of your hours. Everyone is very respectful in general, actually. Work: You perform work similar to what a new staff member would do. It's real experience and a great way to see what a career in this field would be like. There's a lot of variety between tasks, with every case being different and posing new questions. It's been a great balance between new challenges and familiar trends.

What I wish was different

Advice

Ask questions! You're here to learn, and your coworkers are happy to teach. Take advantage of your assigned staff members. Take note of whatever feedback you're given and apply it going forward.

Audit intern

June - July 2024 • West Palm Beach, FL

What I liked

As I finish the process, I appreciate how much the staff have taught me during the 8 weeks. My role as Audit Intern has taught me so much about public accounting and the different ways people find their careers in this industry. The Intern buddy system guided me throughout a majority of my internship. Having buddies to ask professional, career and work questions along my internship helped immensely. Being a student at UF, many accounting recruiters stress the importance of family in the workplace. EisnerAmper really showed me what that means to them and am thankful to those who I have worked with.

What I wish was different

realizing how much work would be given to me if i asked. Breaking up all the videos is an important part.

Advice

1. The amount of help people provide in a healthy and communicative environment is high. 2. Having the mindset of continuous learning will push you farther into your career, they know you are an intern, ask as many questions as you want. 3. I started asking alot of staff how they got to EiserAmper and why they stay, it was good to learn how other people made their career in public accounting

PCS Tax Intern

June - August 2024 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

I really enjoyed their computer programs and applications, I though CCH is a very advanced computer software that assists me in the field of Tax. As well as the friendliness and caring office environment that they proudly promote.

What I wish was different

There wasn't really anything that I wanted to be different, maybe I wish I applied during the tax season, so I was a bit busier with work and always had something to do.

Advice

Reach out to as many people as possible when you're looking for work or just communicating to make more connections with co-workers and be able to put yourself out there.

Audit Intern

June - July 2024 • La Jolla, CA

What I liked

My colleagues at the La Jolla office location were extremely friendly and helpful. I experienced a very warm and welcoming environment. The firm has an amazing culture and frequently has networking and volunteering opportunities. The firm also puts on fun events like bingo days and baseballs games. it feels like they genuinely care about you at this firm. Would highly recommend this internship to anyone.

What I wish was different

I wish that the internship was a bit longer. The 8 weeks came and went. I also wish there was a way for me to have applied more of the mock audit training I did to the real client work. Most of the client work I did was work where I was trained on the spot, not so much pulling from the mock audits.

Advice

Pay attention to everything that is said when you are being trained and take notes when applicable. The training can be complex at times and you may forget many of the steps. Ask questions of course and try to get out of your comfort zone.

Tax Intern

June 2024 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I liked that you have assigned connections at the very start of your internship, which are amazing people to help facilitate your transition into the role. There is also a company culture of getting to know the team you work with, so there is a large emphasis on networking and bonding internally which is a huge perk personally.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship had been longer. June 10-Aug 1 is a very quick amount of time.

Advice

Be present and take advantage of the opportunity! As the summer internship is super fast, my advice would be to make the most of it. This includes going in person as much as possible, setting up coffee chats and networking outings, and asking as many questions about the tasks you are working on as possible! EA is very patient with intern tasks as they understand this is new for many of us, so no question is a silly question!

Tax Intern

June - July 2024 • La Jolla, CA

What I liked

I liked a lot of things about this internship. First of all, the people at the office I worked at were very friendly and always willing to help whenever I had questions about a return or accounting in general. The office environment had a great balance of work and socializing, and was an ideal environment to spend many hours a day at. I also appreciate all the learning opportunities that were available. We learned a lot not only about accounting but also about organization and how to conduct yourself as a professional.

What I wish was different

If anything, I wish the internship was a bit longer as it was only 8 weeks.

Advice

I would say come in ready to listen and asking as many questions as you can. You receive so much information from the trainings, client work, and shadowing people. If you are confused, it is okay to ask questions. Everyone working here wants you to learn and get better.

Tax Intern

June 2024 • Metairie, LA

What I liked

EisnerAmper is an amazing company to work for, and I grateful to be interning with them. EisnerAmper utilizes campus recruiters who make new hires feel welcomed and excited. They offer great advice and hold office hours to touch base with them. The campus recruiters hosted a New Hire Orientation where they not only prepared interns for their internships but gave us a chance to get to know each other through the use of games/activities. EisnerAmper provides interns with a variety of trainings to develop their technical and interpersonal skills. At the office all of the staff, managers, and partners made it a point to introduce themselves and let me know I could come to them for help. The company pairs interns with a new hire buddy who they can go to for help. My new hire buddy has been extremely helpful and always makes time for me when I need assistance. Through EA Cares, Employee Resource Groups, and office events, interns have many ways to get involved and make connections with employees of the firm. I am currently being assigned real work that is allowing me to get comfortable using complicated software and expand my overall knowledge of tax accounting.

What I wish was different

I wish the software trainings would have been more technical. I watched the lengthy videos before I even had access to the software, so it was very hard to follow along. By the time I got around to using the software, I had to relearn along the way. Also, I wish I would've received more details about arriving for my first day at the office. The orientation was not at the location I was working at, and I only knew the name of the building that the office was in. Receiving more details about what time to arrive, parking, and locating the office in the building would have been helpful to an intern on their first day. Very minor detail but thought I would note.

Advice

Do not be afraid to ask for help! It is going to seem like you are asking a million questions, but it is okay. You should be. I quickly realized no one was going to be babysitting me and that if I needed help it was up to me to ask for it. It can be really intimidating to ask for help when everyone is working, but as intern it is something you have to do. Utilize teams and ask a staff member, manager, or partner if they can help you whenever they have free time. Make an effort to open up to others and make connections with people in the office. Do not be afraid to speak to other people first even if it is just saying "good morning" or "good night". Take the initiative to attend office events and volunteer, for this will help build relationships. Lastly, I would say take notes. During this internship you will be introduced to complicated softwares you probably have never used. You will also be given loads of information and instruction. I have learned from experience that your brain cannot retain all of it, so taking notes is vital to your performance.

PCS intern

June - August 2024 • New York, NY

What I liked

All the interns are very close to each other. Everyone wants to form connections and figure out better ways to receive and complete work together.

What I wish was different

This internship couldn't have gone better in my opinion. But the hardest thing is getting something to work on as summer tends to be less busy for tax accountants.

Advice

Form connections with current Eisner employees quickly as it will benefit you in getting work experience. The more people you are able to ask for work each day, the more likely you are to get it.

Audit Intern

What I liked

The people were very welcoming, friendly, and helpful, and I gained valuable experience in working with accounting software and performing client tasks in the auditing and employee benefits sectors. It was both fun and productive, great way to spend a summer.

What I wish was different

I wish I had known more about what the client work would entail ahead of time to prepare, it was hectic playing catch-up when I was diving in to something totally new.

Advice

Keep an open mind about what you'll be assigned to do because each day and week will be different, relax and do the best you can.

Audit Intern

June - July 2024 • Iselin, NJ

What I liked

As everyone has already mention in prior reviews, the environment at EisnerAmper is extremely welcoming and the individuals are eager to aid new members with any questions they may have. During my internship, I entered fearful that those around me would be too busy with their own workload to bother with me or any other interns. Fortunately, my experience was the opposite. Anytime a question arose, I had multiple individuals within the office and also many available on Microsoft Teams to assist. The entire staff facilitated a generous workplace. Another significant benefit would be the work experience provided. As an intern you are not expected to know the ins and outs of an audit. Nonetheless, EisnerAmper effectively introduced the complicated process of auditing through supplying interns multiple clients with different corresponding teams which allowed me to work alongside several staff and seniors in a handful of industries. The experience you gain here at EisnerAmper provides the intel necessary to better inform your future career decisions.

What I wish was different

The only thing I flagged as something that I wished was different would be the EisnerAmper Cares opportunities. During my 2 months at the firm, I was invited to only one opportunity at an animal shelter which I thoroughly enjoyed. I believed it would have been beneficial to experience more of EisnerAmper's community efforts.

Advice

This piece of advice is one that I was told on several occasions throughout my internship. It is vital that you ask questions whenever they arise and take notes to retain information from the responses to those questions. It may feel fulfilling to work/learn independently but as you will experience, working as a team is best for most audits.

Forensic Litigation & Valuation

June - July 2024 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

For the past month, I have had the privilege of working with the FLVS team at the Charlotte office, contributing to some very intriguing cases. The very knowledgeable team members and the experience has consistently expanded my accounting knowledge and helped guide my career direction. Overall, this internship has been incredibly enriching and has further solidified my passion for the field of accounting.

What I wish was different

The Charlotte office is new and up incoming, so I wish there were more co-workers and a recruiter to expand my network and interact with. However, the ones that I did meet were amazing and I found a way to reach out to other offices for my network.

Advice

Don't be afraid to put a little extra effort without being asked. It builds up overtime if you consistently put in extra effort in the work that you do and its noticed a lot more than you think.

Audit Intern

June - July 2024 • New York, NY

What I liked

This was my first internship at an accounting firm, and I felt that it went very well. EA facilitates a very welcoming and warm environment which significantly reduced the stress of starting a new job. Every single person that I met really seemed to care about me and was more than willing to answer any questions that I had. One thing that EA does is assign different people in various levels to you which is helpful because it automatically gives you someone that you can talk to if you need help or if you are just looking for overall advice in the field. One other thing that really made me enjoy my internship experience was the other interns. Every intern I met was so nice and friendly. Being close with the other interns is important since you are in the same boat together and can work together to solve any problems you have. I really valued my time at EA and I would recommend an internship here to anyone interested.

What I wish was different

Since the summer internship starts right after busy season, there tends to not be as much work to complete. I definitely wish I was able to take on more work, but it really varies amongst the departments and locations. Even when there wasn't any work to be done, there was plenty of other things that I could do, like network with the staff, take some online trainings, and shadow people who did have work.

Advice

I would recommend coming into the office as much as possible. During my internship, we were required to come in three days a week, but I felt that it was so valuable to come every day. It allows you to bond with your fellow interns and talk to the staff. Talking to other employees becomes especially important if you are starting client work, since it is sometimes easier for someone to show you what to do on your screen than going on a video call. Another piece of advice is to always ask questions. Everyone at EA was happy to answer any questions that we had, so do not be afraid to do so. It is much more preferred to ask a lot of questions than to ask none and do the work wrong.

Tax Intern

January - April 2024 • La Jolla, CA

What I liked

Everyone was super friendly! Very supportive environment with plenty of opportunities to learn from reviewers. It is inevitable to run into something that leaves you clueless, but the people here are always glad to help. From being assigned buddies to catered lunches, your development and experience are definitely prioritized.

What I wish was different

I think the trainings were extensive but difficult to apply. I believe offering more simulation-type trainings would be beneficial and allow for a smoother transition. However, that did not hinder the experience much and you still get to learn a lot once you start working on actual returns.

Advice

Do what you can to make use of the resources! This includes networking with the professionals and getting their advice as well as making use of things like the LinkedIn Learnings.
