Summer Intern

June - August 2018 • Lockport, NY

What I liked

They had my whole internship planned out right when I got there. I knew exactly what projects I would do and when they were due. The FA I worked for was very involved and made sure I took away lessons from my internship.

What I wish was different

I had to door knock which was not fun at all. Some of the tasks were just outdated and repetitive. I sometimes did not take away much from just the tasks themselves.

Advice

Go into this internship with an open mind and ready to work .

Financial Advisor Intern

June - August 2018 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

The people and environment were enjoyable.

What I wish was different

The program is extremely unstructured and left me with so many days of doing absolutely nothing. I read 8 books, and watched 2-3 full series that summer on Netflix and most of the time spent doing those things took place at my office.

Advice

If you are looking for real hands on experience, I would recommend going to a different firm unless they are able to give you details about what the internship is like on a day to day basis. Because it was deceiving and I feel as though I didn't get to learn as much as I hoped.

What I liked

Great opportunity to learn more about the career of a financial advisor.

What I wish was different

Looking back on the experience, I wish I had gone in to the summer expecting to continue seeking opportunities. The internship experience is largely dependent on the host branch, so be mindful of who you'll be working for.

Advice

Make the most it and network with as many advisors as possible. Use the project opportunities to do the same.

Advice

Edward Jones wasn't at the OSU Career Fair or the Fisher Career Fair so I cold-called an advisor and met with him to introduce myself and ask questions. He gave me a recommendation the next day. Don't limit yourself just to the companies at the career fairs.
