EarthLink

Copywriting Intern

May - August 2023 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

EarthLink's internship program is a great way to gain brand-side experience (especially in marketing)! The community at EarthLink is so nice, and everyone is really willing to help out the interns so that they can succeed in their roles. Something I noticed that was very different from my friends' internships at other companies was that EarthLink doesn't just treat you like an intern, they make you part of the marketing team. You sit in on meetings with the team and they treat you like a full-time employee, which is so unique!

What I wish was different

I was really satisfied with my experience and there's very little that I wish I could change.

Advice

Reach out to others and really learn what they do, because that'll give you a really good feel for what working in brand-side marketing for a small to mid-sized company looks like. Because you're working as part of the team, they take your opinions and suggestions very seriously, so you're able to have a lot of impact that you can bring with you in the future. Finally, ask lots of questions. The culture at EarthLink really encourages reaching out to others and asking questions, so don't be nervous to ask about things you don't know about (they definitely don't expect interns to know too much about Internet Service Providers when they come into the program lol)

Product Analyst Intern

May - August 2023 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

I enjoyed the fact that there was always something to do. There were multiple people I could reach out to if I was in between projects to make sure I was able to put my all into every shift.

What I wish was different

It would have been nice to interact with the other interns on a more frequent basis. Although I was the only intern in my department, I think having the opportunity to work on projects with the interns in other departments would have been advantageous for all parties and may have fostered an even more enjoyable work environment.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. This was a huge learning experience for me, and a lot of my learning came from asking questions, receiving answers, and applying that information on my own.

Junior Software Developer

August 2016 - May 2017 • Rochester, NY

What I liked

Nice co-workers. Easy place to work. Flexibility in your time spent working. Allowed to work from home. Extended my single semester co-op into a double block.

What I wish was different

A lot of work would be done on one or two days of the week and then you wouldn't have much the rest of the week.

Advice

Ask for more work otherwise you'll just be bored most of the day. Leave the office like an hour after everyone else to avoid traffic, they'll probably let you leave work early on Friday to make up for it so you don't work over 40 hours.
