What I liked

The people make the environment warm and inviting.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been aware of the amount of work and the expectations of my employer before I started working.

Advice

I feel as though you need to be able to work in a high-stress environment. While the job is relatively simple, due to the location and how understaffed the store is, it can be challenging. So, just having that in mind is key .

What I liked

I liked my coworkers. They made it a lot easier for me to go through my job, and the manager was really nice and did an amazing job at showing me how to do everything, so I barely had any trouble doing the work, even when I was by myself.

What I wish was different

The employees were great and all, but there were a few that did make work a bit more stressful, as there would be times there would be two people, and I would be the only one taking orders.

Advice

I say I definitely recommend working in food service. Not for long term, but the experience is really useful. It definitely helped me become a better speaker, and it taught me a lot about working under pressure (morning shifts especially).

The atmosphere. I really enjoyed the relationships that I made with the regular customers.

What I wish was different

The way that the store was managed.

Advice

You will work with people that you do not get along with while doing work that you are not crazy about, but that just makes you want to work harder for your dream. Be kind always.

What I liked

It was a relaxed enviroment.

What I wish was different

More competent management. It seemed the manager was promoted because she had a connection to the district manager. There was also no Assistant manager so other workers were delegated the tasks.

Advice

Make sure you have everything settled out.

What I liked

I held this job my senior year of high school and every summer since then. The overall duties haven't changed much in the years I've been there, which makes it easy to come back each summer. I made good friends with my coworkers this summer, and it's great to get free coffee every day. The regular customers are also wonderful. It was really easy to get hours and I worked about 40 hours most weeks, give or take a few. It's a fast-paced environment and you really learn to think on your feet.

What I wish was different

Working 8-9 hour shifts almost every day was difficult. I worked the 2pm-10pm shift, which made it hard to have a social life outside of work. Some coworkers were unreliable and customers were sometimes rude, but I mostly wish I could have worked different hours.

Advice

It's definitely not the best job you'll ever have, but it can be fun. Take time to get to know the regular customers, they usually turn out to be really cool people. Also, make friends with your coworkers. It'll make the long hours go by much faster, and some of the best friendships I've ever had were made at Dunkin.

What I liked

I liked my regular customers who were always happy to see that I was working! I really did put my all into this Summer job because I genuinely enjoyed it!

What I wish was different

I wish the management was handled better. Our manager was busy running several locations so she was hardly approachable. Workers dropped in and out like flies so any sense of structure hardly existed either. I just went with the flow!

Advice

If you do your absolute best at your job, even if it's not your favorite job, people notice. I always got so many compliments from my customers that made my day.

What I liked

I liked the fast paced work environment. There was always something to do. This made the time there fly by.

What I wish was different

Dealing with people in customer service can be a little hard sometimes. I wish people were more considerate of the workers behind fast food.

Advice

If you keep a positive attitude it makes the day so much easier to get through. Also, don’t hold on to things that bother you at work because in the end it’s only going to stress you out more than you need.
