Driving Forward

Intern

January - March 2021 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

Very good experience, especially if you want to learn more about consulting and the healthcare industry. The industry networking and speakers are extremely helpful and introduced to use different aspects of the current work. I think students who want to network with some senior members or want to land a job within the consulting industry should absolutely try this great opportunity.

What I wish was different

Maybe more job opportunities for international students.

Advice

Great opportunity for students have passion about consulting.

What I liked

The volunteers at Driving Forward provide so much support and so many great resources that really propel you into the next stage of your career. Everyone is so dedicated to supporting your own growth and I felt I learned so much more than I would have in a traditional internship. I began this internship when I was not sure what career path I wanted to pursue, and between the actual case study, keynote speakers, and my relationship with my coach, I was able to not only carve out definitive goals, but actionable steps to get there.

What I wish was different

I wish it was in-person as opposed to virtual, but that was a byproduct of the time and environment we were in and not a fault of the program itself.

Advice

I would say you get out of the internship what you put in, so to make it the most rewarding, really work to maximize all the resources available to you. Reach out to program leaders and put 15 minutes on their calendar to pick their brain. Fully leverage the strong network and digital learning platforms to enhance your hard and soft skills. I was able to learn Python through the free resources the program provides, and became a better critical thinker, problem solver, and job candidate because of it.

The virtual formal also opens the doors for students in areas where access to internships might prove challenging.

What I liked

This was a really cool way to learn about the consulting industry while gaining a lot of great networking opportunities. The Udemy subscription they gave us also allowed me to learn Python, which is an invaluable skill. The DF team worked really hard to make this a constructive experience for all interns, so the panels with industry experts was really informative and conducive to my growth.

What I wish was different

I wish it was in person instead of virtual.

Advice

Make the most of the opportunity to ask questions!
