Draper

Student Engineer Intern

June - August 2020 • Cambridge, MA

What I liked

I had an amazing mentor who took so much time to talk with me and answer all my questions not only about the project but about what a career in industry looks like and the different paths to get there. I also learned so much about presenting (research PowerPoints) and how to affectively articulate my findings.

What I wish was different

I wish that the time I spent doing the internship was not an work from home experience, but because of COVID, all work had to be done remotely.

Advice

Ask as many questions as you can. Ask about people's jobs and schooling etc. to collect as much information as you can from others' experiences to help inform your future decisions.

Bioengineering Summer Intern

May - August 2019 • Cambridge, MA

What I liked

I really appreciated the opportunity to return to the microplastic detection project that I had been working on last year, and being able to see how things have progressed while I was at school. I was also given more independence in creating and running experiments in the project, while was a valuable learning experience in practice science.

What I wish was different

I wouldn't change much about my time at Draper, I really enjoyed it.

Advice

One piece of advise I would give would be to have confidence in your abilities, even if you are doing something new. The people you're working with will be happy to help if you have any questions, and you'll be surprised by what you're able to accomplish!

Mixed Signal/Embedded Design Engineering Summer Student Intern

May - August 2018 • Cambridge, MA

What I liked

The work environment and culture at Draper is perfect balance for me. I enjoy working on projects in the defense industry and could see myself doing PCB or IC Design in the future after graduation. I liked interacting with other student interns and working on a variety of tasks related to my major.

Advice

Work hard in classes, but also don't overly stress about them. You'll figure things out eventually and be successful and happy with your life. Take this undergraduate internship opportunity very seriously because it can help you develop a versatile set of skills, and practice social networking, because that aspect is important in your life as well.
