Data Intern

June 2018 - December 2021 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

Even as an intern, I felt like my projects had high visibility in the company. Even if the projects seemed tedious at times, the work I did is still being used today! The company is small, and the managers are invested in everyone's success. It is not unusual to speak 1-1 with the President or CEO, which is a unique opportunity to understand what high-level leadership is focused on and ask about personal career development.

What I wish was different

During the pandemic, we've been working remotely and a lot of each person's work has been independent. If you want to get more connected with company culture, you do need to go out of your way to interact with others across the teams. However, everyone is very friendly, so you could probably have a coffee chat everyday if you took the initiative to schedule them yourself!

Advice

In the data role, there are days that can seem a bit tedious, however, the work completed is really valued by your peers and taken seriously. Since this is a small company, everyone's work really matters and there are opportunities to take on more responsibility as you gain experience. I interned here three summers in a row and now work here full time!
