What I liked

I liked having work autonomy, and making a work plan for myself. I assessed the immediecy and the importance of each of my major tasks and broke them down into daily and weekly goals. I also really enjoyed learning more about Carlisle and it's complicated history.

What I wish was different

Advice

Make it a priority to have overall achievable goals for your research, breaking these down into weekly, and daily goals will help you achieve more and stay on track .

Quantitative Research Assistant

What I liked

Familiarising myself with new data collection, data cleaning, data analysis and statistical techniques relevant to research projects using R.

What I wish was different

The pay could have been higher honestly but the overall experience was very good

Advice

Reach out to professors and keep close contact with them. I was lucky to get this opportunity in the midst of a pandemic because I was always in contact with professors.

I enjoyed getting the opportunity to interview Dickinson alumni about their college experiences. I met lots of interesting and passionate Dickinsonians while polishing my interviewing skills.

- Loved the flexibility of the fellowship, gave me the opportunity to focus on other opportunities as well - A great way to meet alumni and grow your personal network - Really pushes you to develop efficient communications skills

- Training was as impactful as it ended up being very self-driven

What I liked

I really liked how flexible the job allowed us to be, and they supported our independence. We were able to basically set our own hours.

What I wish was different

Making it a full-time job instead of part-time.

Advice

Make sure you are very organized! We had to keep track of our own hours, so that was a new learning experience.

Certain aspects of orientation could have been planned better in advance, but this feedback will be taken into account for next year.
