Diabetes Youth Families

Assistant Cook

What I liked

The people, location, experience, and knowledge I acquired regardinf type I diabetes.

What I wish was different

It was a stressful job and there were lots of miscommunication between the kitchen team and management team. I wish communcation was clearer and decisions were made in advance.

Advice

It is an excellent experience and as long as you stay calm and communicate well, you will succeed. Plus, the people there are the sweetest and you really do it for the kids, they make it worthwhile.

Nutritionist

June - August 2018 • Sequoia National Park, CA

What I liked

I returned to work for the Nonprofit organization Diabetes Youth Families (DYF) for another summer filled with education, growth, and exploration. Working in the middle of Sequoia National Forrest (right between two national parks) is life changing. I gained an entirely new perspective towards type 1 diabetes and for the sense of community, and of course the great outdoors.

What I wish was different

I wish I could spend more than just the summer working for DYF, Bearskin Meadow Camp is astounding.

Advice

You have a LOT of responsibilities, there are many challenges you face in terms of programming and time management, however I would return to this position in a heartbeat.
