Devcon Construction, Inc.

Intern Field Engineer

June - August 2019 • Milpitas, CA

What I liked

Devcon is one of, if not THE, largest construction company in the Bay Area. As such, they land high profile jobs and as an intern, you get to see firsthand the what the construction process entails. The employees at Devcon are honestly amazing; everyone is personable, kind, and most of them live by the motto "work hard play hard". Devcon is a company that values its interns and it is very possible to continue working for them after graduation.

What I wish was different

I worked in the main office in Milpitas over the summer versus the job site which provided a different experience than was expected. My work wasn't always the most exciting, there was a lot of data entry and staring at a computer screen, and there was a lot of self learning as well as a significant learning curve. Working hours are from 7:30-4:30, which can be expected from a general contractor, however the early mornings were a little difficult at times.

Advice

Google will be your best friend. Also, what you'll find is that everyone is learning as they go. Don't be worried if you don't understand something; chances are, the other interns won't know either. You have to be self-productive and be able to regulate yourself.

Field Engineer Intern

June - August 2019 • Milpitas, CA

What I liked

I enjoyed the company environment and being able to work on large projects.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been placed on a smaller team or on an onsite job since I was on the largest team at the company and in the main office.

Advice

It pushed me out of my comfort zone since I was a Finance major (and I was working with CM's and Engineers) but it showed me if you come in with the right attitude you do not need to be intimidated by any internship.
