Destination DC

Finicae & Adminstration Intern

June - August 2023 • Washington, DC

What I liked

There are many things I like about my internship. Starters, I like the way they treat their staff members as family. Also, I like that everything and everyone organize. I like that they provide multiples places to store food and drinks. I like that it's more than one printer so things would not get crowed. I like that the staff is aware of things that goes on in the office as far as making sure paper doesn't run out the printer, making sure there is utensils, paper towels, tissue, etc; are present. To go more in dept, once those issue are brought up there is immediately fix. In addition, I love the setting and the environment of the office; it's bright, inspiring, colorful, and welcoming. Last but not least, I like that we can have fun and still do our job. For instance, I love when we have our staff outings whether is eating out, retreats, or just activities outing because it's a chance for me to connect and socialize with other staff member that I do not know or want to know more about.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish is that I started sooner then I did.

Advice

I actually have a couple of advice from this experience that I would like to share. One piece of advice I would share about this experience is do not be afraid to ask questions when you do not know something even if you think it will slow down a meeting. Another one is before you look for a new job or internship know what your core values are. This is important because you can see if this job is the right fit for you before you schedule an interview by doing some background research. Research will help you to see if your core values line up with your new job. Lastly, do what you want to do; follow your dream and heart. In other words, If you want to do something do not let something or someone stop you from achieving what you want.

What I liked

Destination DC completely exceeded my expectations - everyone across every department was SO friendly and welcoming and I had the opportunity to work on a variety of different projects to deepen my knowledge and skills. I was always happy coming into the office. The company really treats interns like employees and includes them in all events too, so I really felt I was a part of the DDC family. I could not be any more grateful for my experience with them and would recommend them to anyone!! By far my best internship I've ever had.
