Marketing Intern

What I liked

I have felt like part of the team. The hip marketing team has thrown me into the field and I have many experiences that most interns do not get.

What I wish was different

I would have liked for my manager to be more understanding of the hard work that I was putting in on a day to day basis

Advice

Take initiative, even as an intern you can have a huge impact so jump right in and take advantage of the opportunity

Manufacturing Engineer Co-op

What I liked

This is a year long co-op where I worked with the engineering group. We are a group that focuses on bringing new technologies into production and producing casting through investment casting. As a co-op, I have played a role in pushing parts, learning the process, and doing inspection on the mold qualifications of the 20 SKUs. This co-op has allowed me to learn more about dimensional inspection through blue light scanning and CMM. I have also increased my knowledge on modeling on UG NX and running simulation on Mold Flow Simulation using Autodesk. The first priority of this company is first safety and then quality. Depuy shoots for the highest quality for the benefit of the patient. Hearing testimonies from those who have our products in them is life changing!

What I wish was different

I wish there were more testimonies shared throughout the plant. Often time, it only happens at special events. Also there are cadaver labs around and that is very interesting to watch and perform!

Advice

Find a job that you can be at where it doesn't matter too much on how many hours you work or what the pay is; provided that the pay is not substantially low, because the job is so wonderful that time just flies by! Finding a job that you love so much that seeing the results of your efforts brings much joy!

Process Engineering Co-op

What I liked

The people that worked here were great, it was one of the reasons I looked forward to coming to work.

What I wish was different

Due to the nature of the company and industry things tended to move very slow here.

Advice

It’s a good experience but if you’ve worked at a big company before and didn’t like it, I don’t recommend coming here as it will drive you crazy. If you are interested in a big company there are so many benefits to working here. The company try’s to get engagement in the workers in things other than just work, which is great!

What I liked

A lot of insight into the product development process.

What I wish was different

Project I helped on was near the end of its life cycle in the sense that it is close to launch. This means that there are much more paperwork involved than design. I wish there were more hands on design.

Advice

Keep talking to people. Anyone and everyone you talk to at internship is helpful to your career.

GDC Engineering Co-Op

What I liked

I enjoyed the number of opportunities I had as a co-op in that department. I was the only engineering co-op, and was able to ask all my questions. I was able to learn about manufacturing by analyzing prints and making documents for tracking that laid out the manufacturing steps. I also was able to be exposed to the manufacturing floor and see the parts being made, as well as the issues that could occur during the processes. My manager was also great to work with because he allowed me to ask to do new tasks and add more to my overall skills as an employee. There were always new things to do and ask to learn about.

R&D Coop

What I liked

Great work culture and very interesting work that was relevant to my major. There was also a large community of college aged coop students and some PhD and masters students to network with as well.

What I wish was different

The location is a little bit secluded but there are locations which are perfect for a day trip or two on the weekends

Advice

Like with most internships and coops you can learn a lot from your experience but you have to take your learning into your own hands and try to understand why you are doing what you're doing. Don't just do the work try to dig deeper and ask questions.
