What I liked
I love being able to take care of my younger brother, who has cerebral palsy. I have assisted in taking care of him for his entire life and have been grateful to be blessed with his presence in my own life.
What I wish was different
I wish nothing to be different.
Advice
Learn to have unconditional love towards everybody, especially those who can't give back. It makes service and caring for them much more meaningful.

What I liked
I really liked who I was interning with (past JBU grad!) . She was thoughtful in helping me contemplate my potential future job at DHS. She did everything she could to get me the most experience possible-introducing me to everyone, letting me come out on the field with her, letting me come to court and sit in on meetings.
What I wish was different
I wish the case workers were not so overloaded so I did not have to feel like I was bothering anyone when I wanted to come in and observe.
Advice
I would absolutely recommend doing an internship, no matter how large or small, with DHS for anyone looking to go into the helping profession. Caseworkers are overloaded and understaffed. Seeing first hand the experience could spark the excitement or help someone quickly choose something else. This internship will provide interns with first hand knowledge in seeing if this difficult field is something they are interested in.
