Deloitte

Deloitte National Leadership Conference (DNLC) Scholar

June 2019 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

All of our sessions were very interactive and I was grouped with other students that attend college in Atlanta so I can maintain contact with my team.

What I wish was different

I wish that DNLC was longer than a weekend because I had a great time.

Advice

Start doing case interview prep more than a month before your interview. Studying for case interviews a little bit at a time over a long period of time is much more helpful than cramming right before your interview.

Discovery Intern

June - August 2019 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

I loved that this internship was unique in that it allowed interns to experience two business lines; which in my case was tax and audit and assurance. With this amazing opportunity I was given, I can confidently say that I will enjoy my future working in the tax practice. The Deloitte professionals I met during my internship also contributed to my positive experience immensely as they were very encouraging and supportive throughout my time there.

What I wish was different

Advice

A piece of advice that I would share about this experience is for incoming Discovery Interns. Come into the office or to the client everyday with a positive attitude and the desire to soak up as much information as you can!

Summer Scholar

June - August 2019 • Denver, CO

What I liked

I liked that I was able to travel and experience the real work of a consultant. The work was fulfilling and challenging while not being overwhelming. I was treated like a real employee of the firm despite only being an intern.

What I wish was different

I wish we had been given more detailed performance reviews. I also wish I was able to improve on more hard skills in the business technology realm.

Advice

This internship is what you make it. If you want to build 100 strong connections during it, it's up to you to achieve that. If you want to produce impressive deliverables, that's up to you. If you want to make a real impact and the firm or the client, it's up to you to figure out that best way to do it.

Tax Accounting Intern

June - August 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

From a responsibility standpoint, I enjoyed researching state tax issues and completing compliance work for clients. I had taken a few tax courses in the Whitman school and I believe these experiences helped me with my assignments in an efficient fashion. I also enjoyed how much time my coworkers spent training me and exposing me to as much tax information as possible in my ten-week internship. I was constantly learning new things and this helped me confirm that I wanted to pursue tax as a full-time career.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had received feedback on my work but understand that this can be challenging when business is busy. I appreciated the feedback that I received but I am always looking for more information.

Advice

Always carry a pen and notebook with you. You never know when you will have a question, hear something interesting, or get pulled into a conference call with a client. Taking notes can help solidify new concepts and can be used for reference when completing a task for one of your coworkers.
