Meeting the people that I had been helping through my undergraduate assistantship and working with them side-by-side towards our common goal - cultural preservation and development of the Delaware Tribe.
What I wish was different
Greater transparency between the Tribe and ESU internship participants, to include training and instruction for site survey expectations and daily schedule prior to arrival in OK. Paid internship resulted in unpaid internship.
Advice
This was a first-time internship between ESU and the Delaware Tribe. I would recommend interested students to fully research future Internship details, participate in tribal work study/independent study prior to the internship, and work closely with their advisor to ensure a positive experience with diverse populations.
