Deborah's Helpers

Caregiver

August 2020 - April 2021 • Menomonie, WI

What I liked

Working with Deborah during college was such a blessing! The position allowed me to manage my school schedule and still have a job, although it never felt like a job! I loved talking to Deb about life and my day, and always left my shift feeling better than when I got there!

What I wish was different

Every job has it’s downfalls but I wouldn’t have changed a thing.

Advice

This is a great position for prospective healthcare workers who are looking for direct patient care hours! It is a great first step into caregiving for those without experience.

April 2021 • Menomonie, WI

What I liked

Flexible schedule; Friendly & positive work environment; Interpersonal relationships; No experience necessary; Sense of community

What I wish was different

I wish I would have found out about this job sooner!

Advice

Do not be close-minded. This a great job, even if you aren't looking for a future healthcare career. Also, you do not need to have any experience. Deb has a great system for training those with no experience. She makes sure you are comfortable, and Deb is eager to help if you have questions or if you feel uncertain with anything. I am so thankful that I kept an open mind and applied for this job. It has been one of the best decisions I have made in my life.

What I liked

I love being able to help Deb and allow her to be able to live and enjoy everyday as best as she can. The team we have is amazing and always willing to help and encourage each other in side and outside the work environment.

What I wish was different

Nothing this has been the most rewarding job I have ever had.

Advice

When I first got the email from my school that there was a job opening to be a caregiver for Deb I thought someone else will help out. Someone else will apply for the job. But the second time I got the email I for some reason changed my perspective and I thought to myself I can help, I can not rely on other people to help her. That was the best decision I ever made and I applied and it has been amazing working with Deb ever since.

Cargiver

September 2020 • Menomonie, WI

What I liked

This position is so rewarding! What I love most about this job is the relationships you create while working. Especially with Deborah! Some of us caregiver call her our "Menomonie mom", which she loves. The things you do for Deborah is fun and exciding. Everyday is different and I love that about working with her. You learn things that you would never think would be beneficial, but everything I have learned through my years here have been so helpful. Especially if you plan on going into anything related to this field of interest. Also the knowledge you gain through working with Deborah will go far, you may be able to work with her nurse, occupational therapist, physical therapist, or doctor. Also, if you are a college student - this position is super flexible and Deborah is always willing to move shift around if possible.

Caretaker

August 2020 - June 2021 • Menomonie, WI

What I liked

Deborah is an amazing soul. She is always positive and loves to hear about you and your life. There wasn't every a time I came out frustrated or angry. This isn't a job that is emotionally draining like most, I enjoyed coming to work and talking with her everyday. Her energy everyday, even on her hardest days, was easily the best part. This was an amazing job that I wasn't expecting but has changed me as a person for life.

What I wish was different

Some of the difficulties I had while I was there were related to medical problems and hurdles for Deb. I know now that she has overcome them and is in a safer position as well as her caretakers.

Advice

Be open minded, this experience changed my life and Deb is such a wonderful person, you soon fall in love with the job.
