July 2019 • Byron Center, MI

What I liked

Advice

Stick it out the first 2 or 3 weeks. Those suck, jobs good after.

Dock Worker

May 2017 • Warren, MI

What I liked

The work environment and my co workers. I get to be a part of a team and help to accomplish something that is bigger than myself. It is both challenging and rewarding.

What I wish was different

The midnight hours are tough but that's the schedule that was available. It provided for some tough days but it was worth it.

Advice

Try your best to manage your time in between school, work, and social activities. Its hard to balance school and work but I think its even harder in the summer when all your friends and family are more prone to make plans.

Summer Intern

May - August 2019 • Lockport, IL

What I liked

I was already an employee when I received the internship offer and I am still an employee of Dayton Freight. I liked that I was able to see almost every position in the terminal and the roles each of them have in the operation of each day. It gave me a better appreciation of the work being done, and how every has a hand in the success of each day.

What I wish was different

This only occurred twice during my 9 weeks but for two days I was treated as the "intern."

Advice

DO IT! If you are interested in logistics, this will help you find were you would like to fit in or if logistics is not for you. The environment is truly fast paced and each day is unpredictable. If that fits the bill for you, GO FOR IT!

Management intern

June - July 2018 • Crest Hill, IL

What I liked

Being an individual seeking supply chain experience, this internship truly developed my understanding how freight moves across the country. Management is very passionate about what they do and their success margin on deliveries shows it. I enjoyed and respected the work ethic everyone had that I worked with.

What I wish was different

Take more of an initiative.

Advice

You need to take the initiative and jump into tasks, because it is a high paced environment once trucks start coming in its important to try and learn as much as you can through watching and then eventually try it yourself.
