Dacotah Bank

Human Resources Intern

May - July 2019 • Aberdeen, SD

What I liked

The work style was purely educational. Instead of having a traditional internship where you do "intern work" I was able to observe and learn from everyone at the Dacotah Banks Talent Management department. Dacotah Bank was also flexible with what I wanted to pursue. I was very passionate about retention and recruiting this led to a couple of my projects built around those subjects. It was an eye-opening experience to see all of the roles needed to manage over 500 employees at a bank.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time. I really wanted to see the hiring process start to finish. From the first phone call, interview, training then to resignation.

Advice

Be open-minded! I never thought about working in HR but Dacotah Bank had a great team and it was an honor learning from the people that are passionate about their job rather than reading or learning about it in class.

DacotahGrown Lending Intern

May - August 2018 • Aberdeen, SD

What I liked

The day to day tasks and how it was very educational. At the end of the Internship, I fully understood what part of the banking industry appealed to me the most. Dacotah Bank treated me so well and made it one of my favorite summers. It was also very team oriented with two other individuals.

What I wish was different

The only thing that would have been nice if it wasn't in Aberdeen but they have a housing stipend to make paying two rents not that big of a deal.

Advice

Try something new even if it scares you. I had no idea what I wanted to do after graduation and now I do. This internship is well designed to show you everything that the banking industry has to provide.
