Advice
When considering working in a pharmacy, it's important to be realistic. As a freshman in college, I think we all have these great ideas about what our jobs will be like when we graduate. We make being a pharmacist sound amazing and think, "You give patients life-saving medicine!" and "You work closely with patients and advise them on how to best treat, or even cure, their diseases!" But, in reality, on a day-to-day basis, you do not have time to talk to every patient, patients are not eager to change their lifestyle, you spend 70% of your day looking at a computer screen, 20% on the phone debating with doctors offices or insurance companies, and the remaining 10% working as a cashier. The above, idealistic statements are still true, but they're rare occurrences sprinkled on top of the real day's work. My advice would be to work in a busy pharmacy to make sure your idea of the job doesn't clash with reality before taking on debt and another four-year commitment. Then, if you still want to do it, go for it and give it your all!
