I liked the opportunity to go to events for the purpose of promoting our stations and the artists. I also liked interacting with clients when we would perform our remote broadcasts.

What I liked
The promotions team was very friendly and welcoming. They taught me all that I needed to know. Working love events and getting to see the behind-the-scenes of radio was very interesting.
What I wish was different
I wish communication with the supervisor would have been better. I would ask her to do stuff to meet school requirements, and she would completely forget until I texted her about another 2 or 3 times.
Advice
Be prepared to work crazy hours. It was always fun waking up at 3am to be at the radio station for 4am.

What I liked
Cumulus did an amazing job allowing at interns to get experience in other fields of the company. I asked if I could look behind the scenes of the radio shows and they scheduled me to help out weekly with “Mornings with Dave and Kim” at 94.7 FM
It was also amazing having access to events like The Rolling Stones concert, PIQNIQ and Lollapalooza. I loved that we had a young team with over 20 interns, it is fun to work together with people of your own age.
What I wish was different
I wish I would have had a set schedule. I usually got my work schedule on Thursday for the upcoming week. This made it difficult to plan my schedule outside of the internship.
Advice
If you want to work for any type of department in radio, I would apply. Cumulus is a great place to get experience and make connections.

What I liked
I learned so much about the radio industry and what goes on behind the scenes, especially how they gain and maintain loyalty to listeners in a changing media environment
What I wish was different
The hours for this internship were very draining and challenging, many times I worked 8-10 hours in a row with barely any break. There was also a lot of time spent outside in the summer with limited access to water
