What I liked

I really enjoyed being able to meet and interact with both the patients and the medical staff.

What I wish was different

I wish there would have been another volunteer at the same time to help so we could accomplish more during the time.

Advice

I would say I learned a lot about taking the initiative because there were so many things I could do once I decided to step out of my comfort zone and sample task list.

unit assistant in hosptial

What I liked

I was able to completely make my own schedule each week and I was able to work on a different floor of the hospital everyday and float around. This was such a great learning experience as I prepared to begin nursing school this semester. Since I was a float, I was able to meet a lot of different people, as well as get to experience the work environment of different types of hospital floor specialties. This allowed me to be able to start learning which areas of nursing I think I may be interested in and which areas I am not as interested in.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have sought the opportunity to work prn and be able to still work a couple days a month on times I could come home from school.

Advice

This opportunity helped me prepare for nursing school and I was able to learn so much about the health field as I worked with nurses and nurses assistants each day.
