Student Worker
April 2017 • San Diego, CA
What I liked
The County of San Diego is a wonderful place to work if you enjoy doing good for others. There is an overwhelming feeling of community in my department and I feel comfortable getting to know my colleagues. It is a very professional place to work with a team-oriented atmosphere. I highly recommend any student to work for the County of San Diego, even if they are not already interested in pursuing a career in public service. I am currently a Mechanical Engineering student and always imagined myself working in the private sector. However, my experience with the County has been so pleasant that I am seriously considering pursuing a career in public service. Further, the County offers excellent benefits. Student Workers do not get benefits other than sick time, but if you do end up pursuing a career with them after graduation, you are able to buy in all of your sick time from your time as a student worker.
What I wish was different
Nothing, I love my job.
Advice
Networking is very important.

Interesting work, good exposure to a lot of high up government officials, busy office

More time/chance to get involved.
Advice
Ask questions and push for more responsibility. A quiet worker doesn't make as much of an impression!
