My time at Council on Aging of Elkhart County was incredible. I chose to first apply because I liked working for nonprofits and thought it would be nice to work with a local organization. My internship ended up getting extended twice because there were so many exciting projects for me to keep working on. I got to work with a small team that believed in the value and power of marketing technology and gave me a lot of responsibilities. I’ve never doubted the importance of the mission and those that work at COA live it every day. Hearing client stories made the mission very real.
Some of the projects I worked on during my internship included helping with Radio Fundraiser 2020, a testimonial video, COA’s general social media presence, the website, the Caring Connections volunteer program, public relations, and more.
I liked working at Council on Aging because I felt like I mattered and that my work was doing something in the community. My internship expanded each month as more of my skills were realized. Senior leaders I worked with became my career mentors, helped me more than they know, and weren’t afraid to be real with me.
