Coolfire Studios

Production Intern

January - April 2023 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

I liked how organized and communicative everyone was. I never felt like I couldn't ask questions and there was always someone availible to help out if I needed guidance on a project.

What I wish was different

Advice

Make sure to take initiative and reach out to your supervisors if there's something you want to be doing within the company. They were really good at communicating and working with you to get you the experience you want, you just have to be confident and outgoing enough to make it happen.

TV Development/Production Intern

August - November 2022 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

Everyone at Coolfire was very kind and welcoming to the experience and I felt I was aiding in the company's mission during my time there.

What I wish was different

I wish I asked for the opportunity to edit sooner in the experience. The supervisor was wonderful in providing opportunities for interns to explore other areas of the production process, and making the most of the experience.

Advice

Come every day with a positive attitude, work hard, and have fun. Don't be afraid of asking to try something out. I was a TV Development/Production Intern and got to edit some projects because I asked.

TV Development Intern

January - April 2022 • Saint Louis, MO

What I liked

I felt like I was actually a part of the team there. People who weren't my direct supervisors would randomly stop by my cubicle to chat and it was lovely experiencing that sense of community.

What I wish was different

The only thing I would improve is that the interns don't get to interact very often. You interact with a lot of people at the company, but I personally never worked with any other interns during my time there.

Advice

Eat in the common room for lunch so that you can meet new people.

Web Designer Intern

August - December 2021 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

I learned a lot during my time at Coolfire, especially regarding the day-to-day experience of a professional office setting in a creative field. Although Coolfire does not specialize in graphic design, I was able to learn a lot about Adobe XD, Wordpress, and web design at large. I was challenged nearly every day with learning about an area of design I was very unfamiliar with prior to beginning this internship, as well as teaching myself two new design programs. I enjoyed the fast-paced nature of Coolfire, and everyone I interacted with within the company was willing to offer insight into the company and their field.

What I wish was different

I would have loved to work with a more specified design team, but Coolfire does not have in-house designers, so this wasn't an option during my internship. I also would have enjoyed having more hands-on work, but because of the fast-paced nature of this company, it was a little difficult to get direct feedback from supervisors as often as would be preferred. I felt slightly underutilized at times, and perhaps more time could be spent designating jobs for interns outside of video production.

Advice

I would recommend that interns at Coolfire anticipate being busy, working with a lot of different people, and be willing to get outside of their comfort zones. It is a company that demands you be outgoing and self-sufficient to some extent. Put yourself out there and talk to as many people within the company as you can.

Getting to work at a professional company and learning how a studio function. Getting to work on projects along side other industry professionals and seeing the work get published.

Advice

Network as much as you can and don’t be afraid to experiment and try new things within your craft.
