Production Intern

September - December 2017 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

Getting an internship with CONAN was something I had wanted since I was in high school. I would stay up late watching his show while my mom begged me to go to bed. What I liked most about this internship was the connections I made with the people who work at the studio. From the writers, camera operators, editors and graphic designers; I was always meeting new people and getting to have these amazing friendships and connections. I also loved being there. Since it was such a dream for me, every day when I walked on the lot it felt like I was living in some kind of dream world. I looked at every day as a blessing there and worked hard to make a name for myself.

What I wish was different

The only thing that I wish I would have done differently is find some way to stay in LA. For the first time I felt like I had found exactly the career path that I wanted. Everything felt right.

Advice

For the future intern, I would say to just be friendly and work hard. Never stop working and always jump at opportunities, even if the job seems small at the time. Also talk to everyone and make connections that will be key in your future.

Monologue Intern

January - April 2017 • Burbank, CA

What I liked

Besides this being one of the coolest jobs ever, everyone at Conan was so much fun to work with! Everyone is super nice, the work is doable and doesn't feel tedious, and just the overall opportunities that came with working on this late night talk show, on the Warner Bros. lot every day were incredible. By far one of the best experiences I've ever had, and it was great to share that with about 30 other interns, including two other IC students, and even IC alumni who work there! Thanks to Ithaca College and the ICLA program for helping make this possible!

What I wish was different

I wish I could've rotated in other departments just to get a better sense of what everyone does (but having interns relearning every few weeks or so would be annoying for the staff and would not be as productive, so I get why they don’t do it.) Otherwise, no complaints!

Advice

Take advantage of every day and always work to make a good impression! Time goes quick!! Keep smiling and doing little things to help here and there. Get to know as many people as possible without being annoying, and really make what you do count no matter what it is! Curiosity, passion, a great attitude, and a hard work ethic will go really far!
