I really enjoyed learning about hospital protocol and working with patients immediately post-operatively. This was my first internship in a hospital setting, so things were vastly different from the outpatient clinics I was used to. Every person I interacted with at the hospital was so kind and helpful, and it was just an overall incredible experience!
What I wish was different
I wish I could have followed the patients recovery further. Most patients only stayed at the hospital overnight, so I only saw them once or twice before discharge. Some patients, however, opted to stay at the hospital a bit longer to help them further recover before returning to their home, so we saw those patients for sometimes up to a week or more.
Advice
I would suggest to everyone looking to be a physical therapy intern to ask as many questions as possible, and to build a relationship with your internship supervisor! They are a fabulous resource for information and have already been in your shoes. The relationship I formed with my internship supervisor has opened a door for me to possibly do a clinical rotation there once in graduate school!
