What I liked
In my experience, Communities Unlimited offers a warm, moderately-paced, human-centered work environment. While assisting clients with loan forgiveness applications via telephone calls, I was encouraged to listen to their stories and learn more about their situations to be able to connect them with additional resources. It was very rewarding to see the real impact this organization has on people in low-income, under-resourced areas.
Another strength of this internship was the quality of training. My supervisors made a concerted effort to teach me about every department in the organization, and I felt well-prepared to discuss various resources with clients.
