Camp Counselor

What I liked

I loved working with kids of various ages. I also really really loved how the creative arts classes changed per session. Also two week sessions were great!

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish was different was the time of the camp. It sort of takes up your entire summer but it's worth it.

Advice

Get plenty of rest because you will be tired after working an 8 hr day 5x a week.

Faculty Development Program and Event Manager

What I liked

The opportunity to network with faculty and different departments at columbia college. I was able to see first hand how classes are structured and resources that are available for faculty and how they are managed.

What I wish was different

To have been able to work more hours if needed.

Advice

Be assertive, communicative, and confident in working with professors; you never work with students.

Student researcher

What I liked

The switch to an all-online experience was not a daunting as I thought it would. Conducting online interviews was a great way to gain networking skills primarily on an online platform.

What I wish was different

I wish the type of research we had to do didn't change so often, but due to the pandemic, there was no way around it. However, if I were to change anything it would be how I organized the academic readings so I could easily reach them fast.

Advice

I would say utilize how you have been able to retain important information for classes and run with it even if your peers learn a different way. I would also say if you are interested in doing research like I have been describing look into the fashion Lab program if you are a ccc student and want to better your resume. It is a lot of work but you will learn more than you think!
