I enjoy being mentored by grad students across multiple disciplines related to bioastronautics and being immersed in an academic research environment, learning tons of professional communication skills and experimenting with my career interests.
What I wish was different
I wish that I was better equipped by my major thus far in terms of coding language relevant to this job. As an undergrad in biomedical engineering now, I am treated as a biology major and less so an engineering major in that realm; I'd appreciate a more engineering-heavy curriculum in my belt.
Advice
Meet with your mentors to talk about goals you have for this job, as well as any feedback and confusion. Meetings with the team members and grad students on this research has been the most fortifying. Keeping everyone internally updated is key. This also requires bolstering your professional communication skills!

What I liked
I liked being able to apply what I had learned during my engineering courses to actual real life engineering problems.
What I wish was different
I wish I had a larger team to work with. I worked along side a graduate student and my professor, but that was mostly it.
Advice
For small team research projects be ready to be a self starter and figure out what needs to get done next. Don't be afraid to ask what you should be focusing on.

What I liked
I enjoyed getting to take ownership over my own research project. I was able to see the project all the way through from start to finish. I enjoyed the people I got to work with and the environment I got to work in. I felt that the research I did was meaningful and made an impact.
What I wish was different
I wish I could have stayed longer and done more research.
Advice
Ask as many questions as possible. I got the opportunity to learn from numerous professors at CU Boulder and took away a lot from each conversation. These people have a plethora of knowledge and it can truly behoove you to take advantage of that.
