Programming Instructor

June - August 2018 • Potomac, MD

What I liked

The flexibility and topics! I taught Java (modding in Minecraft), game development with Unity, and basic coding in Scratch. I was given an informative curriculum to guide me and it was my choice on how I wanted to teach it depending on class size, age of students, resources at my disposal, etc. It was a lot of independent learning and adjustment.

What I wish was different

The organization of the whole operation concerned me the most. I was a contractor and played a small role in this nationwide company. Instructors were hired at different times, there was no formal training with all the instructors, and the different locations I taught at had different rules/obligations that I did not know about in advanced.

Advice

Expect to learn and grow as an individual as you work. Everyday is a new learning experience that can be challenging. At times, it will push you out of your comfort zone, but do not shy away from opportunities that do so.
