What I liked

I enjoy teaching kids about coding and helping them along with that process. I loved the people I worked with, which consisted of mainly high school students, with one other CBU student.

What I wish was different

A little bit better of an agenda for the summer camps would have helped. For regular days, it's all good.

Advice

You need to be able to deal with a variety of personalities since the kids you are working with are between 6-14, so you get some that are very hyper and energetic, with some others less energetic, so finding that balance of encouraging play and keeping it calm will help.

What I liked

It was very fun working and teaching with kid-friendly coding languages and applications such as scratch, Roblox studio, Minecraft modding, etc.

What I wish was different

Advice

Don't underestimate how hard it is to work with kids and think back to when you first learned to code and how you felt, this might put you in a better perspective for teaching others.

What I liked

Working with kids, the flexibility of schedules, being able to work on your own basic programming skills and learning how to work with new software, and working on your social skills with many different age groups, both by being a teacher/helper (a sensei, if you will) and a marketer of sorts.

What I wish was different

I started working for them right before the location's grand opening, so it was slow going at first as everyone was figuring out what worked best for many different things. By the time I left, however, things were rolling pretty smoothly. I did have to work several long shifts at the beginning of the summer as well, as we did not always have as many employees as we needed because of people's availability. The downside to flexibility in scheduling is you may end up being on a shift that no one else can help with.

Advice

This job was incredibly fun. I would say go in willing to work hard and get to know the material you'll be teaching the ninjas. It's not the easiest job since sometimes kids aren't the best behaved or maybe they've gotten themselves into a programming corner that you're not sure how to help them figure out. Be willing to ask fellow senseis for help if needed. And don't be too serious about it. Kids love the Code Ninjas programs more when they find them interesting and fun, so be lighthearted and cheery, and you'll find you'll be having fun too.

What I liked

The coworkers, the boss, the kids. It was a great experience and I had a ton of fun.

What I wish was different

I just wish there were enough kids that I could have more shifts.

Advice

I wanted a 'real' programming job that summer. I applied to Boeing and Lockheed Martin and Uber and Qualcomm. I got rejected from all of them. Code Ninjas was a plan B when it should have been a plan A. I had so much fun and learned very important soft skills for programming, like teaching and explaining complicated principles. I even spoke to some of my friends who got the internship I wanted and Boeing and she said she hated it, which only makes me happier to know that I had more fun at Code Ninjas for the summer than the position I thought I wanted.

What I liked

Great working environment, all my coworkers were nice and so were both of my bosses.

What I wish was different

I think their system needed a bit more organization, and I think the younger senseis (the ones in high school) could use a bit more background knowledge about the concepts they're trying to teach.
