Technical Training

May - August 2022 • Memphis, TN

What I liked

The work was very challenging and fulfilling. I was tasked with developing new curriculum for hay balers, that would be and is used to train dealership technicians on that kind of equipment. I am pleased that my work is currently being used at CNH for those purposes and I appreciate having interns be involved with and responsible for real and noteworthy work. I also appreciate that wonderful people that work there and how much they cared for me during my time as an intern. Often, some of the full-time employees took time to come by my desk and ask how I was doing, as well as help me with some of my challenges at work. I still keep in contact with many of them.

What I wish was different

The managers for interns jobs and the intern coordinators at this company really need to reassess how they view interns in respect to what the goal of hiring them on is in the first place. I interned two years in a row at this company, and both times was well liked and appreciated and asked to return for work, however no job offers were given in either situation. I was simply told to apply for the next opening. I do not understand that ideology. If you need extra work for a summer and don't desire to keep them, hire temp workers. But interns are there to learn that line of work, and quite probably would like to work at that company. It is a probationary period that allows them to be trained in an environment where they can be mentored, and ultimately hired on as a career employee. It is a perfect opportunity to cultivate brand loyalty, employee motivation, and also provide proper training, which this company could use to its advantage.

Advice

Apply to every single job opening you feel you can possibly qualify for. I applied to every single internship opening at CNH for both the summers I worked there. They will take notice of you and you will almost certainly provide an inroad for an interview. Also cultivate a proper work relationship with your manager. Many interns unfortunately did not even meet their managers in person, and I feel lucky that I was able to mentor under mine. If you do so, they will desire to keep you and that will increase your chances of getting a job in the company and in that position. I still ended up getting hired onto the company in a different division, but it took a lot of effort and applying to many openings. Make good relationships and keep in touch so as to give yourself the best chances.

Manufacturing Engineering Intern

May - August 2023 • Racine, WI

What I liked

A good amount of freedom to choose what I wanted to focus on. If I asked for more work I was quickly given things to do.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been given a bit more ownership of what I worked on, but it was a pretty short internship so I feel that if it had been longer then I would have gotten to that point.

Advice

If you feel like you don't have work to do - speak up and ask for more, but also try to come up with some suggestions of what might need to be done that you'd like to work on.

ICT Support Specialist

May 2019 • Racine, WI

What I liked

Company culture is very good. People seem to treat each other with respect. Scheduling is also forgiving and flexible. Having the opportunity to work for a global company and a major player in the AG and CE segments is awesome. There are many opportunities within the company and areas to grow.

What I wish was different

The on-boarding process was a bit chaotic as I felt like I wasn't doing anything for a little while.

Advice

Absolutely go to the career fair if you are interested in gaining experience with a large company. I had tried to get different jobs within the company before but they were all contract work through 3rd parties. I hadn't considered even going to the career fair but I am glad I did.

Product Development Engineer Intern

May - August 2018 • New Holland, PA

What I liked

Great company culture and mentors that worked with me throughout the summer. Many opportunities and challenging projects to advance my knowledge of mechanical engineering. CNH provided housing for the interns and invited us to many fun company events.

What I wish was different

I wish that CNH had more locations in the South as that is where I am possibly looking to relocate after college.

Advice

Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone when it comes to internships and trying something new/relocating to somewhere else. Once you are out of college you won't get those opportunities as much and college and internships are meant to let you explore!

Quality Intern

May - August 2018 • Wichita, KS

What I liked

I liked being able to have exposure to my field of interest. I was also assigned projects that gave me valuable experience in managing projects that had a real impact on the manufacturing line. Everyone I worked with was friendly and very willing to help with anything I needed.

What I wish was different

I wish I had had a little more direction in my tasks, and a more complete description of my internship responsibilities at the outset. Also more projects to work on.

Advice

Always be willing to learn. When I started my internship there were a lot of new concepts I had to learn, as well as adjusting to the work environment. If you're willing and able to learn new things, you can quickly adapt to almost any circumstance.
