Advice
I hadn't had an internship previous to this one and was very nervous about all the new types of work I was going to be getting into. But there was no reason to be. It's a learning curve but you are not alone and it's worth the risk.

Intern
June - August 2022 • Lutherville Timonium, MD
What I liked
I liked the fact that everyone was candid about their expectations and flexibility when it came to schedules and workload. While they made the comment of "never working over 40 hours," it didn't mean that they expected you to work 40 hours. I also appreciated the ability to do remote work to build upon those skills and that everyone was very open to questions.
What I wish was different
I wish I had taken more advantage of company get-togethers as it is a really good bonding experience amongst employees.
Advice
Do not be afraid to ask questions. This firm prides itself on helping their employees thrive. They take their time to ensure that you fully comprehend what is going on and are enthusiastic when it comes to answering questions.

What I liked
The blended experience of audit and tax, the culture of the office (professional yet relaxed).

Advice
ASK QUESTIONS, everyone was super helpful, and I learned so much more than I would've if I had not asked questions.

Auditor
January - April 2020 • Waite Park, MN
What I liked
The employees were friendly and always there to help should I have any questions. The food catered during busy season was delicious. Plus the seniors and partners provided great feedback. Compensation for the job was wonderful as well!
What I wish was different
Nothing, perhaps coronavirus to not occur to make us work from home. I enjoyed the office life/interaction instead of communicating through emails.
Advice
Always be first to show up last to leave. However, use those hours constructively and communicate should you fall behind on something. Everyone is there to help you and appreciate it when they're kept in the know about things.

Tax Intern
January - May 2019 • Appleton, WI
What I liked
-Relevant work experience in the field I am entering after graduation (public accounting).
-Hours can get fairly long, but the overtime pay is very rewarding.
-Assigned a 1st or 2nd year full-time employee as a "buddy" to ask questions to and have as a resource.
-Ability to work directly with partners at the firm.
-Friday happy hours after a long week of work.
What I wish was different
-I wish I would have gotten the opportunity to get a blended internship with tax and auditing rather than just tax (I am going into auditing after graduation so prior experience in this would have been beneficial).
Advice
Job duties and assignments can seem complicated and overwhelming, but using your resources and working hard will lead to a great learning opportunity and be very rewarding.

What I liked
I had a terrific amount of real-world experience, which I personally feel taught me more than anything I've learned from any course in college.
What I wish was different
My only complaint was that it wasn't longer. I wish I could have stayed for a few more weeks.
Advice
Be humble, and do your personal best. What you get from the experience is entirely dependent upon you and your individual attitude.

Tax/Audit Intern
January - April 2018 • Plymouth Meeting, PA
What I liked
During the internship I rotated between several departments. I gained experience in both tax and audit. This allowed me to determine which industry I would pursue a career in.
What I wish was different
I wanted experience with corporate tax returns but worked with another department prior to the corporate deadline. Expressing interest in a department will let your in charges know where they can schedule you.
Advice
Going into the internship, try and have a general idea of which field (Audit or Tax) you are interested in the most. This will open up the possibility of your work being favored towards that area. If not, you could spend more time in an area you may not be interested in.

What I liked
I enjoyed learning about auditing as well as seeing what my day-to-day work load would be like. I also enjoyed getting to know my co-workers and making personal connections.
What I wish was different
I wish the internship would have been during busy season instead of the summer.
Advice
Go in with an open mind. Be ready to use the experience and knowledge you've gained at the University of Iowa but also be willing to learn from your managers and co-workers.

Tax Accounting Intern
June 2019 • Century City, CA
What I liked
I loved how open and encouraging the firm was. They were open to teaching and helping people grow. They want their employees to be happy and love their work, so they help you find things you have a passion for.
What I wish was different
I wish that I had time in the audit department.
Advice
I would say to work hard. Just because you are an intern does not mean you cannot excel and learn more than the associates. I would also advice to be open to learning new things, show them that you are a go getting, volunteer for events. Try as much as you can at the firm. Get to know anyone and everyone.

Accounting Intern
January - April 2019 • Dallas, TX
What I liked
There was a ton of training, lots of learning opportunities, and it was easy to receive help when needed. Communication was very prominent. The biggest plus was the ability to do tax and audit. It was nice to walk out of an internship and feel much more confident about my professional accounting skills.
What I wish was different
There is not much that I would wish have been different, however, I am known to be optimistic.
Advice
Many of the other interns had started thinking they would prefer audit and were certain by the end that they wanted to do solely tax. If you are struggling to decide between tax or audit, this is likely the internship for you.

Accountant Intern
June 2018 • Greenwood Village, CO
What I liked
I loved the opportunity to work on a wide variety of clients with similar needs so I could see the many facets of the accounting process, from A/P to financial statement compilations.
What I wish was different
I wish I had been able to use the training I received right away, rather than waiting almost 2 months before I got to apply it.
Advice
Alwaysask what you can do for co-workers! As an intern one has the chance to dabble in a little of everything in a way a full time accountant cannot.
